Instrumentation uses Hotjar, Crazy Egg or an equivalent, loaded only after consent because session recording captures visitor behaviour. Recordings are configured to suppress sensitive input at source so payment fields, passwords and personal detail are never transmitted, rather than redacted afterwards. Click, move and scroll maps are collected per template and per breakpoint, since a desktop heatmap says nothing about a layout that reflows on mobile. Sample size is checked before conclusions are drawn: a heatmap built on a few dozen sessions shows the behaviour of a few dozen people, not of the audience. Segments are separated by device, traffic source and new versus returning, because averaging them together hides the pattern that matters.
